Management raises panel of inquiry on riot- AUCHI POLY
MANAGEMENT RAISES PANEL OF INQUIRY ON RIOT

Following the riot that took place in the Polytechnic last
Thursday, the management has set up an administrative
panel of inquiry to look into the incident. The eight-man
committee is chaired by Mr. Ebhotemhe Stephen, a Chief
Lecturer in the Department of Statistics, School of
Information and Communication Technology.

The Committee which has two (2) weeks to submit its report
is to determine the immediate and the remote causes of the
riot, take inventory of properties destroyed and identify
persons involved. Also, the committee would make
recommendations on appropriate disciplinary actions
against the culprits, compensation for damaged properties
as well as measures to take to forestall future occurrence.

Other members of the committee are Mr. Uwakaji Peter,
Engr. Zubair Mustapha, Dr. Uhunwagho Helen, Barr. Eigbe
Simon, Mrs. Ohiro Evelyn, Mr. Uba Ibrahim and Mr. Garuba
Sunny who is the secretary of the committee.

COMMITTEE ON DAMAGED VEHICLES INAUGURATED

The management has set up a three-man ad-hoc committee
to take inventory of vehicles damaged during the riot in the
Polytechnic. The committee is chaired by Engr. Akinyele
Olawale, the Director of Works and Maintenance. Others are
Mr. Umar Shehu and Mr. Saliu Yaro who is the secretary.
Terms of reference of the committee include identification
of the owners of the vehicles and the extent of damage. The
committee is expected to submit its report within one week.

COMMITTEE ON STAFF GRIEVANCES CONSTITUTED

In a bid to ensure united and rancour free Polytechnic
community, the management has constituted a committee
to look into grievances of staff over certain matters. The six-
man committee is headed by Dr. (Engr.) J. S. O. Ohikhena of
the Department of Chemical Engineering Technology.

Aggrieved staff are to submit seven copies of memoranda
with evidence attached, "where necessary" to the School
Officer, School of Engineering Technology. Members of staff
are to submit such memoranda on or before Friday, June
10, 2016. Other members of the committee are Engr. M. A.
Zubair, Barr. E. A. Ainabor, Barr. A. O. Abu, Mrs. M. A. Igbafe,
Mr. C. S. Garuba and Mrs. S. E. Jimoh, who will act as
secretary.

Management has reconstituted the Polytechnic Schools
Management Board (PSMB) and appointed Dr. Peter Igbafe,
a Chief Lecturer as its Chairman.
Other members of the Board are:

Since the mindless riot and vandalization of property of
Thursday June 2, the Polytechnic management has
continued to receive solidarity visits. His Royal Highness
Alhaji A. H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, the Otaru of Auchi; His Royal
Highness, Alhaji A. K. Danesi, the Aidonogie of South-Ibie
visited the Polytechnic last Saturday and inspected the MIS
building and the Library where the rioters wrecked havoc.
The Royal fathers expressed shock at the level of destruction
but assured that in spite of the destruction, the Polytechnic
will fulfil its manifest destiny.

Also on Monday June 6, the Most Reverend G. G. Dunia,
Bishop of the Auchi Catholic Diocese in company of priests
visited the Polytechnic and prayed for peace and progress in
the institution. Rt. Rev. J. O. Bada also led priests of the
Anglican Communion to pray for the Polytechnic on Tuesday
June 7.
